Praised by Opera News as a "vocally charismatic" performer with a "golden tenor,” Martin Bakari has recently joined Pittsburgh Opera, Atlanta Opera, and Arizona Opera for the title role in Charlie Parker's Yardbird, Seattle Opera for Eugene Onegin and Porgy & Bess, Cincinnati Opera for La traviata and Le nozze di Figaro, Syracuse Opera for Così fan tutte, Portland Opera for Philip Glass' In the Penal Colony and a solo recital, Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra for Abyssinian Mass, Fort Worth Opera for Porgy & Bess, Raylynmor Opera for Pagliacci, and On Site Opera for Morning Star and Murasaki's Moon.

Internationally, he has appeared at major venues in Dresden, Hamburg, Munich, Frankfurt, Cologne, Tel Aviv, and Bari. Performances affected by COVID-19 include Carmina Burana at Carnegie Hall with the Cecilia Chorus of NY, John Adams’ I was looking at the ceiling and then I saw the sky at the Cincinnati May Festival, Porgy & Bess at Nashville Opera and Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Die Fledermaus at Fort Worth Opera, and a solo recital at NYC’s Neue Galerie museum.

Mr. Bakari’s 2021-22 season includes Prince Claus in Mark Adamo’s Becoming Santa Claus at Chicago Opera Theater, Count Almaviva in The Barber of Seville at Intermountain Opera Bozeman, Goro in Madama Butterfly at Dallas Opera, and Don Basilio in Le nozze di Figaro at Seattle Opera.
